Summary: Where well into 2017, is the Butt Lift still as popular as ever? The American Society of Plastic Surgeons does indeed collect information on procedures such as this. Sometimes it’s obvious what’s trending, but sometimes you have to dig a little bit more for that information. After all, just because Brazilian Butt Lifts have been popular up to this point is no guarantee that such popularity will continue.
In 2017, is the Butt lift Still as Popular as Before?
We’ve over halfway through 2017 (where does the time go?) and so it’s worth checking in on the popularity of some specific procedures. In other words, it’s 2017, is the Butt Lift still as popular as it used to be? Or has the popularity of this particular procedure waned over time.
The Brazilian Butt Lift is certainly worth checking in on, mostly because it’s been one of those procedures seeing substantial growth. Over the past few years, the butt lift has gotten more and more popular. Evaluating the progression of that popularity increase can tell us a little bit about where Brazilian Butt Lift stands.
One thing is for sure: the procedure is still popular. We’re not claiming to have evidence of any kind of precipitous drop in how often surgeons perform this particular procedure. Rather, we’re looking to see if the so-called BBL is still picking up steam.
Looking at Long Term Statistics
The first place we can go for that is right to the statistics. Every year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons collects statistics on just how many procedures are performed in the United States. They track breast augmentations, facelifts, and tummy tucks, among others. Essentially, the track just about every procedure you could think of.
And one of the procedures they track is, obviously, the Brazilian Butt Lift. In fact, they’ve been tracking this procedure for a while. According to the ASPS, Butt Lifts generally are up roughly 252% over the year 2000. That’s a pretty substantial improvement—but, in a way, we already knew that, right? That 252% increase is over a long period of time, the same time period we had already established includes the huge boom of BBLs.
It’s also worth noting that “butt lift” includes several types of butt augmentation, including but not limited to the Brazilian Butt Lift technique.
What Makes Brazilian Butt Lift Different?
Which might make now a good time to talk about what makes a Brazilian Butt Lift both unique and popular. Before the BBL, most patients pursued a butt augmentation that was delivered via the use of silicone implants. Those implants are not incredibly popular for a wide variety of reasons. That’s one of the reasons why so many people were excited when Brazilian Butt Lifts became widely available.
Rather than using any sort of pre-developed implant, the Brazilian Butt Lift uses your body’s own assets to get results:
- Unwanted fat is removed from your body via a liposuction procedure
- This fat is often purified or otherwise processed in order to produce the best results possible
- The fat is then injected into the target area (in the case of a BBL, the target area is the buttocks)
- The end results tend to look and feel very natural
A Brazilian Butt Lift offers several advantages over something like an implant. First and foremost, a BBL tends to be minimally invasive. While the liposuction part of the procedure does require some recovery time, there are no large incisions to be made. And the results, again, tend to look and feel significantly more natural than any other type of implant.
That said, there is a recovery period associated with the injections as well. Patients are often counseled to avoid sleeping on their backs (or even sitting) for several weeks in order to give the fat the ability to “take” to its new home. Still, Brazilian Butt Lifts are usually considered the optimal way to get rounder, larger, more “fit” looking buttocks.
Is Brazilian Butt Lift Still Popular in 2017?
There’s no evidence that the Brazilian Butt Lift isn’t popular. But it’s worth looking at how the last few years of data compare. The latest year for which the ASPS has collected data is 2015. So how does 2015 compared to 2014? Well, in 2015, surgeons performed 14,705 Brazilian Butt Lift procedures in the United States. That’s a 28 percent increase from 2014’s numbers.
In fact, looking at the numbers, it becomes apparent that Brazilian Butt Lift continues to rise in popularity just about every single year. That leads to one unmistakable conclusion: Brazilian Butt Lift isn’t slowing down. Indeed, it seems reasonable to conclude that the popularity of this procedure is a long way from significantly waning.
Why is Brazilian Butt Lift Popular?
This continued and significant growth in popularity begs the question: what, exactly, is it that makes Brazilian Butt Lift so popular in the first place? The results of the procedure are important in answering this question. I have a hard time imagining the sustained popularity if the Brazilian Butt Lift were not effective in the majority of cases.
But that’s not all. Part of the popularity stems from the way that we look at bodies these days. The modern “fit” body is one in which the butt tends to be larger and rounder—with a certain amount of “lift” to it. This isn’t a value judgment one way or the other (and there are a whole host of reasons for it—but that’s another article).
But it’s very difficult to increase the size of your buttocks naturally, through exercise. That’s why many people opt for surgery: it gets results and it’s easier than the alternatives. That said, you should always discuss any possible procedure with your plastic surgeon. Only your surgeon will know whether a procedure such as a Brazilian Butt Lift is the right fit for you. In many ways, it doesn’t really matter whether a Brazilian Butt Lift in 2017 is still popular. It’s more important that the BBL is the right fit for you.
