celebrity plastic surgery 2017

Summary: What’s happening with celebrity plastic surgery in 2017? It’s a new year, and that means new innovations. Celebrities often get first access to some of these innovations. That’s why we try to keep up to date with the news out of Hollywood. That said, not all celebrity plastic surgery procedures are newsworthy. We sort it all out when we try to talk about the biggest celebrity plastic surgery news stories of the year.

Our Look at Celebrity Plastic Surgery in 2017

If you’ve been wondering who’s been getting plastic surgery this year, then it’s definitely worth taking a look at how celebrity plastic surgery in 2017 is shaping up! I say this because I’ve noticed that every year there are a few plastic surgery stories that tend to dominate the headlines. In 2016, it was all about Renee Zellwegger, Iggy Azalea’s breast augmentation and Ariel Winter’s breast reduction.

Each of those stories tended to capture the imagination of the public—often for widely different reasons. Renee Zellwegger, for example, was a “did she or didn’t she” kind of story. Ariel Winter, on the other hand, was important because breast reduction isn’t a procedure that is as widely known as the augmentation counterpart.

When each of these stories break out, I try to slow down a little bit and see what we can learn from them. And while the year isn’t over by a long shot, it might be a good time to check in on what celebrity plastic surgery in 2017 might be able to teach us so far.

2017 Big Story #1: Melanie Griffith Plastic Surgery Regret

One of the biggest stories to hit in the month of April was about actress Melanie Griffith. According to an interview with Porter magazine, Griffith only noticed that she had gone overboard with her plastic surgery when she started hearing some unkind reviews.

Most plastic surgeons will work incredibly hard so that patients never have to hear anything like “Oh my God, what has she done?!” But according to Griffith’s interview, that’s precisely what she started hearing. Thankfully, it seems as though Griffith’s work has consisted mostly of dermal filler injections, because her new surgeon was able to dissolve much of the injected content.

What Can We Learn From This?

Certainly, there is such a thing as too much plastic surgery. It can often be difficult for patients to know when a given procedure might be “too much.” That’s why most plastic and cosmetic surgeons will counsel patients away from making that decision. So when your surgeon says “no” to a certain procedure, it’s important to listen!

2017 Big Story #2: Nicole Kidman’s Fillers

One of the other big stories in 2017 centers around Nicole Kidman. Now, Kidman herself has not been a stranger to plastic surgery stories. It wasn’t that long ago that rumor swirled about her potential breast augmentation (rumors that have never been substantiated). This time, the Nicole Kidman rumors are circulating around one of her recent appearances, in which her face seemed fuller than it used to be.

The primary suspect here is some combination of dermal fillers. One plastic surgeon even speculates that Kidman may have had a fat transfer of some kind. However, the use of dermal fillers is quite common—and even if that is what Kidman had done, it’s still not technically a “plastic surgery” procedure.

What Can We Learn From Nicole Kidman?

According to the website of Carillon Minneapolis, a Twin Cities area injectables provider, there are a significant number of possible options if you want to fill a little volume in our skin. Most options include some kind of hyaluronic acid based dermal filler, such as Juvederm or Voluma. Most of these fillers are only temporary, meaning the effects will wear off in a matter of weeks or months. That the results are temporary is one of the main reasons these fillers are so incredibly popular!

Big Story #3: More Celebrities Admitting to Plastic Surgery

If we can get a little less specific for a minute, we can also discuss one of the other big celebrity plastic surgery news stories of 2017: more and more celebrities are talking about their procedures. Whether its Heidi Montag or Kaley Cuoco or Iggy Azalea—more and more Hollywood celebs are talking about the cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures they’ve had done.

And that’s a good thing. It represents a couple of changes:

  • Decreasing Stigma Attached to Plastic Surgery: The more celebrities talk about the work they’ve had done, the more it both reflects and reinforces changing views about plastic surgery. In general, plastic surgery has become much more accepted—there’s much less of a stigma attached to it than there was even a few years ago.
  • Realistic Depictions of Beauty: When celebrities are honest about their plastic surgery procedures, it enables all of us to be honest about how unrealistic some standards of beauty are. In other words, when celebrities admit to having plastic surgery, they also admit that they don’t achieve their fantastic good looks naturally. The more honest we are about where those good looks come from, the healthier the overall discussion.

What Can We Learn From This?

There’s a tendency, especially among celebrity commentators and plastic surgery websites, to engage in quite a bit of guessing and conjecture. But we might need to learn a little bit of patience. Celebrities, just like any other human being, are entitled to a certain amount of privacy—especially when it comes to medical procedures. If we’re patient, celebrities will often come clean on their own.

And, frankly, it’s much more useful when celebrities are honest about their procedures. The endless conjecture that tends to happen can be counter-productive. It doesn’t always lead to a better or more thoughtful discussion.

Putting Celebrity Plastic Surgery in Context

At plastic surgery articles, we tend to avoid, whenever possible, discussing unconfirmed reports of celebrity plastic surgery. Sometimes, however, a celebrity plastic surgery news story gets so big that we have to say something about it. Our philosophy when it comes to celebrities and plastic surgery is pretty simple: it’s their business, and we only like to talk about it when those celebrities want to talk about it.

When we do discuss celebrity plastic surgery, we usually do so in an attempt to highlight some other news or information. In other words, we don’t enjoy discussing the lives of celebrities for reasons of gossip—we want you to learn something from the discussion.

At the very least, we like to use that discussion as a spring board to talk about things that might matter to you in the field of plastic surgery. It doesn’t always work on a one-to-one basis, but that’s what we aim for. That’s why we’re talking about celebrity plastic surgery in 2017—a lot has happened so far this year, and we want to make sure you can stay up to date.

But the idea isn’t simply to keep you up to date on the gossip, on the ins and outs of celebrities and plastic surgeons in 2017. Rather, our idea is to keep you up to date on plastic surgery itself, through the lens of celebrity plastic surgery in 2017.
