Summary: Predicting the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures of 2019 shouldn’t be all that difficult if you’ve been paying attention. That’s because the most popular cosmetic procedures tend to be the same ones year after year. Certainly, Botox is an example of this. But why do new and novel approaches have such a difficult time breaking through? That’s a good question.
What Are the Most Popular Cosmetic Surgery Procedures of 2019?
The most popular cosmetic surgery procedures of 2019 will probably surprise–not because they’re all that different or novel, but because they’re more or less the same procedures as last year. Cosmetic surgery is an incredibly volatile field–there are always new procedures being introduced and old procedures getting phased out.
You’d figure that this–the beginning of a new year–would be the moment when we’d see new procedures rise to the fore. But, typically, that hasn’t happened. What’s happened instead is that we see the same procedures popular year after year.
While we’re talking mostly about non surgical procedures here, the same holds true for surgical techniques as well. That’s not because new procedures aren’t making their mark–they are. It just tends to be around the firnges. Even some of the most popular new procedures, though, can’t hold a candle to the old mainstays–the popular cosmetic surgery procedures of 2019. We’re going to take a look at what some of those procedures are and what’s keeping them popular in this fresh, new year.
Botox is the Most Popular of All
There’s no getting around this little nugget. The most popular cosmetic procedure of 2019 is likely going to be Botox. We feel confident in saying that because Botox has consistently been the single most popular procedure year after year… for a very long time. We can’t remember when the last time Botox wasn’t number one.
And there are a few reasons for that. First, it’s hard to discount the marketing juggernaut that Botox has become. Botox is known by just about everybody–that type of brand awareness doesn’t exactly happen by accident.
Second, Botox works for a wide variety of ailments. Sure, the most common use of Botox is to eliminate lines and wrinkles. But that’s not the only use. Botox can be used to:
- Mitigate the severity and frequency of migraine headaches
- Diminish the severity of clinical depression
- Prevent the formation of wrinkles and lines in the first place
- Treat muscle tension issues, such as TMJ
It seems like cosmetic surgeons keep finding new uses for Botox injections. And that’s great for patients. When you think about all of those uses–and the fact that Botox typically lasts for about four to six months–you can see why it’s so popular every year.
Dermal Filler Injections
People do seem to love their injectables! And it’s hard to blame them. Dermal filler injections, for example, are a convenient way to achieve a wide variety of results. And that’s why they’re popular year after year.
Of course “dermal fillers” is almost more like a category of treatments than a single treatment all its own. There are, in fact, a variety of dermal filler brands, from Juvederm and Voluma to Radiesse and Bellafill. But those brands actually tend to do very different things–or at least have different specialties.
But that’s part of what keeps these injections popular among patients: they’re incredibly versatile. With the right dermal filler injection, you could:
- Eliminate lines and wrinkles
- Increase the size of your lips
- Make your face look more youthful
- Make your hands look more youthful
- Change the overall shape of the nose
And more. You get the idea. Dermal fillers are, like Botox, temporary–though they do last a good while longer. Most dermal fillers last somewhere in the 12-24 month range.
Some Newcomers Gain Traction
That’s not to say that no new procedures ever gain ground. One such newcomer is a procedure called Kybella. This is an injectable that is able to, more or less, melt away fat. Currently, Kybella is only FDA approved to treat the fat around the jawline. But when you mention that Kybella can eliminate a dreaded double-chin with only a few injections, you get people’s attention.
I suspect, because of the sheer convenience of this procedure, we’ll be seeing Kybella in the top ten most popular procedures for some time to come. Whether it will be one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures of 2019 is harder to predict, of course, but it’s certainly well within the realm of possibilities.
The Future is For You
Ultimately, the most popular cosmetic procedures of 2019 aren’t going to matter all that much. What matters instead is what’s popular to you. What matters is what will help you feel better about yourself and your looks.
